Paul Dorow's Obituary
Paul C. Dorow, age 73, of Waupaca, WI, passed away Monday, March 23rd, 2009 at his home after a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on February 5, 1936, the son of Clarence and Beatrice (MacFarlane) Dorow. Paul married Rose Marie Pintarich on August 23, 1958 in Butler, WI. He was a veteran of the US Army. He is survived by Wife: Rose Marie Dorow, Waupaca, WI; Children: Susan (Dale) Averkamp, Goodyear, AZ; Robert (Diane) Dorow, New London, WI; Grandchildren: Abigail and Erika Dorow; Sister: Ruth Klebenow, Oak Creek, WI; Nephews: Peter (Chris) Klebenow, David (Mary) Klebenow, Mark (Becky) Klebenow, and Marc (Joanne) Belich; Cousins: Dr. James Dorow, Brookfield, WI; and Alan Dorow, Baltimore, MD. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with Pastor Jeff Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 until 8 PM at the funeral home and on Saturday from 1 PM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established in Paul's name. Raised and schooled in Wauwatosa, WI where he graduated High School with the Class of 1954. He continued his education at Cornell College, IA, UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Superior attaining his Masters of Education and Specialist License. His studies led to a lengthy career in education beginning as an elementary teacher in Greenfield, WI. In 1965 he became an Elementary Principal in Loyal, WI. From 1968-1978 he was the Elementary Principal at Cottage Grove in the Monona, WI School District. 1978-1981 he became Superintendent of Schools in Hurley, WI and was Superintendent of Schools in Waupaca, WI from 1981-1982. Paul was an Advocate for Special Education, Member of the Drug & Alcohol Prevention Council, Annual Scholarship Contributor to Area High School Graduates, and has tutored students over the years. In 1983 his career focus moved to The Prudential Insurance Company, where he shared time as an Agent and Sales Manager in areas from Stevens Point to Appleton. Paul was best known in the greater Waupaca area as a dedicated agent throughout the 90’s until his retirement in 1999. While work life was important, Paul will be best remembered for his dedication to various civic organizations. Of special note, The Lion’s Club as a member and driver of the Wisconsin Eye Bank, an active and dedicated Methodist most recently at the Parfreyville and Crystal Lakes Churches. As a Town of Dayton Supervisor, Panel Member for Review of Foster Care Cases in Waupaca County, Meals on Wheels Driver, Monona Grove Volunteer Fireman and EMT, Mosquito Hill Nature Center, Conservation Club Member, American Legion, the Nomads Philanthropic Organization, and the Waupaca Old Car Club. If we missed any we’re sorry. He enjoyed grouse and deer hunting with Hook and Franny, pan and walleye fishing with Dave, golfing with Cas, The Judge and Terry; organizing the annual Rose sale and pancake breakfast with the Lions was another. Trips to Bayfield for Apples, and Bessemer, MI for the Bread of Life Italian Rolls with Rosie and Lady was an annual event. Winning breakfast from Al every time Waupaca beat Little Chute in football, and from Doc when Wisconsin beat MSU. Playing sheephead on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s and the morning Breakfast Crew, were a few other favorites Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday because everyone was welcome. Dad was excellent at canning food, especially, jam. Abby will miss your strawberry the most! You’re begonia’s are second too none, you always had a special touch in the garden. A diehard Cub’s fan, maybe this is the year! Sports, the Badgers, Packers and Brewers were always on the Radio. Known to so many as PAUL C, you’ll be greatly missed. Dad especially loved Rosie for over 50 years, and the special Dog’s in there lives. Your love for Abby and Erika, Diane and Dale will be cherished.
