Paul J. Horvath's Obituary
God welcomed Paul John Horvath on May 1, 2017 at the age of 80. Paul Horvath was born in Delmont, South Dakota on July 27, 1936 to Joseph Horvath and Agnes Ebersdorfer. His family moved to the town of Buena Vista in 1943 where he was raised with his three sisters. Paul attended Amherst High school where he graduated in 1955. He then joined the Wisconsin National Guard from 1955-58 as part of the Red Arrow Brigade and continued his service in the United States Marine Corps, first stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA in 1958. Paul spent 18 months in Okinawa, Japan as a part of the field artillery. His service also included some unique tasks, such as being stationed at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California to march and groom the ski hills in formation on skis. Just prior to his discharge, Paul was stationed off the coast of Cuba as part of force in place during the Cuban Missile Crisis November 1962, then honorably discharged in December 1962 after nearly 8 years of service.
Paul spent 37 years total as a pressman, first for Worzalla Publishing, followed by more than 30 years at the Journal Printing Co. where he made great memories and longtime friends. Paul loved his family, attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events, and spoiling them with candy, long drives in the country listening to blues, blue grass, and classic country music. He also enjoyed taking a trip back to South Dakota when he could go with his sisters. Paul enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, farming and bird-watching on his farm that has been in the family since 1943. He was caring and open minded, a fun-loving person who was accepting of all people and will be very dearly missed. Paul is survived by his three sisters Helen Lebrick (Plover, WI), Rose Doyle (Waupaca, WI), and Mary Schmidt (Appleton), his two children, daughter Paula (Green Bay) and son Stephen (Justine, Stevens Point), his six grandchildren, Tethys Touglo, Ny Bass, Joseph, Eleanor, Nina and Chando Horvath, and two great grandchildren Mariah Horvath and Cohen Cornwell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Agnes Horvath and one brother who passed in childbirth, Michael Horvath.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 8611 State Hwy 54, Between Plover & Waupaca, Town of Buena Vista, at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 6th, 2017, with Father Jim Trempe, officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Town Lanark, Portage Co.,WI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 8 AM until the time of the service at the church.
