RACHAEL A. (LEPLEY) LAVOLD
WAUPACA, WI Age 83 – died on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI. She was born on August 12, 1921 in Viroqua, WI, a daughter of the late Mahlon and Milena (Hanson) Lepley. She married Norman T. Lavold on April 26, 1943 in Miami, Fl. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1999. Rachael is survived by two sons: Daniel (Donna) Lavold of Waupaca, WI, and David (Mary) Lavold of DeForest, WI, four grandchildren: Christopher (Kim) Lavold and their daughter, Allison of Mauston, WI, Kimberly Lavold of Denver, CO, Scott Lavold of Minneapolis, MN, and Jena Lavold and Fiance Steve Hoffman of Minneapolis, MN, a sister: Eileen Pierce of Waupaca, WI, and a nephew: John (Jan) Pierce of Solon Springs, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband: Norman, her parents, a brother: Mahlon Lavold, Jr, and a sister: Helen Fincher. Rachael was raised on a farm in Viroqua, WI. She had attended a one room school house called Cherry Grove School. She went on to high school and then two years of college. While in high school and college she enjoyed forensics and drama. She graduated in 1940 and was certified to teach kindergarten through 8th grade. She taught school for three years prior to her marriage to Norman Lavold in 1943, when he returned from serving in the Navy. In 1956 she returned to college and graduated in 1960 with a Master’s Degree in teaching. She taught for 29 more years in the Monona Grove school system. She retired from teaching in 1980 after 32 total years of teaching. Rachael enjoyed bowling and golf. She belonged to many dance clubs. She had been very active in her church. She liked to travel, read, and she enjoyed sports. A funeral service will be held at the Shepherd of The Lakes Church in Waupaca, WI on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 1:30 PM, with Pastor David Martin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King, WI. Friends may call at the Shepherd of The Lakes Church on Monday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
