Amherst, WI
Age 73 – passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. He was born on March 24, 1940 in Iola, WI, the son of Russell and Edna (Louison) Carey. He married Melba Blevins on April 13, 1968 at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst.
Richard is survived by his wife, Melba, a brother: Wayne (Linda) Carey of Amherst, and a sister-in-law: Carol (Robert) Lea of Amherst. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Dale Carey.
Richard had worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for 38 years. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst. Richard had served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Selma Voight American Legion Post #22 in Amherst. He was also a member of the Tomorrow River Conservation Club. Richard had a number of interests including hunting, fishing, reading, and gardening. He especially loved planting apple trees.
A memorial service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7:00 PM, with the Reverend Gretchen Anderson, officiating. Interment and military honors will be held at a later date in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. A visitation will be held at the church in Amherst on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in memory of Richard P. Carey. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
