Dick was born on May 3, 1946 to Richard and Linnea (Johnson) Schultz in his parent's farm house at Rural Route Bowler, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of nine children. Dick's siblings included two sisters and six brothers. At age nine his parents moved to another farm at rural Tigerton, Wisconsin. Dick graduated from Tigerton High School in 1964. He dairy farmed with his dad at Tigerton for a few years before purchasing a farm at rural Bowler. Dick married Sandy Schoepke on the 'Chief Waupaca' paddle boat at Clear Water Harbor on August 1, 1987. He managed Waupaca Farm and Garden Center for several years and then joined the Waupaca Foundry in February of 1982. Dick retired in May of 2008 with 26 years of excellent service.
Dick and Sandy have been members of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 35 years. They have been privileged to travel together reaching destinations to the east like the State of Maine and to the west, the Hawaii Islands. They enjoyed visiting popular tourist cities including New Orleans, Branson, Nashville, Niagara Falls and they also explored much of Wisconsin. For 35 years they began each day with a game of Yahtzee before they did anything else. Dick loved their Crystal River home and the family enjoyed growing up there. He manicured his large lawn with three different sized John Deere tractors and various JD attachments. On nice days he enjoyed driving his 1966 Cherry-Red Mustang Convertible. Dick collected model cars, tractors and various kinds of farm equipment that reminded him of earlier days.
