I am so sorry to read this as Dr. Hurlbutt was a great help to me in the late 80's in Stevens Point. Such a kind man, so inspiration, caring, intelligent. Remembered his convertible car, THE ID! What a wonderful man! The good die way too young. And, now, ironic I am in Madison which Dr. Hurlbutt so loved. As a published writer, I spoke to Dr. Hurlbutt of writing and his wisdom inspired me to publish eight novels. I sent Dr. Hurlbutt my first on his quote, 'the first rock n roll poet, Jim Morrison.' I can only say this breaks my heart as such good souls leave us so soon. I didn't know of the love for Australia and the Indy 500! What a truly great and kind man. I wish I could speak to you now, Dr. Hurlbutt! Thank you for your kindness, authenticity, your knowledge and care! May the angels dance with you! Rest in Peace oh good, kind, wonderful man and may God bless you and your family and friends. My life is better because you joined in my dance! Peace! Truly, Marshall Pierce. Madison, WI
My friend since we were 6 years old. You will be missed. Save a popsicle for me.

One of Rick's favorite sayings was "We're not here for a long time. We're here for a good time." Thinking back on the times I spent with him, they were more than good enough, but they weren't long enough.
