Julie Ann, Greg, Wes-
I cannot begin to describe how deeply sorry I am for your loss. No one who has ever known Augie could possibly overstate what a great man he was. From the time we were younger, through grade school, during our brief time playing basketball for Augie, and after graduation from high school, Augie was always there with a smile on his face to offer support and friendship. Without a doubt, he has left a lasting influence on the many people he coached or mentored. On a personal level, Augie served as a mentor and role model (probably without knowing it) during some very difficult times while I was in high school. Because of personal and family difficulties, I had several opportunities to go down the wrong path. It seemed that Augie was always there, offering words of advice and support during some very difficult times. Through his example, I learned how to be selfless and kind. I can truly say that I would not be where I am today if it were not for Augie’s mentoring and friendship. As I come closer to receiving my medical degree next year, I realize that my accomplishments were only possible because of people like Augie. My only regret is that my travels did not allow me to return to Waupaca to have a chance to say goodbye and personally thank him for the lasting influence he has had on my life. The world is a much lesser place without Augie. I am truly sorry for your loss, and will continue to pray for you and the rest of your family. Very respectfully, Derek Mai, 2LT, USA
