Robert Lotz Jr.'s Obituary
Robert C. Lotz, Jr., age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born June 1, 1916 in Waupaca to Robert and Ella (Sutton) Lotz. Bob grew up in Sheridan, WI, where he developed an early interest in the railroad. Prior to WWII, he worked in potato warehouses, farming, and for a short time, was employed by the Soo Line Railroad in several of its stations. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in submarine maintenance in the South Pacific. He was stationed at Midway and Pearl Harbor among other locations. Following his discharge after the war, he again returned to the Soo Line for a brief time before joining the Chicago and North Western Railway in 1946 as a locomotive fireman. During the following thirty-five years, Bob was promoted to locomotive engineer and worked many locations on the North Western between Chicago, Appleton, Green Bay, Antigo, and Ashland, before retiring in 1981. The greater portion of these years was spent near the Appleton area, where he met Carol Langman. Bob and Carol were married in 1964 and lived in Appleton and New London until his retirement. Thereafter, they relocated to the Town of Dayton countryside south of Waupaca where Bob enjoyed reading, watching nature, and working in his woods. Carol preceded him in death in 1991. In 2004, Bob moved to the Crystal House in Waupaca. Bob was a member of the Crystal Lake Methodist Church and was also very active in the Waupaca senior citizens' group in his later years. Bob is survi ved by a special friend, Margaret Stapleton of Waupaca; brother, Verne (Donna) Lotz of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Mary Lotz of Oshkosh; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Allan and Edwin Lotz, sister, Helen Lotz Holman, and a brother-in-law, Beach Holman. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. Reverend Jeff Fletcher will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Sheridan Village Cemetery in the Town of Farmington following the services on Friday. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
