Robert P. Boers' Obituary
Robert Paul Boers, 89, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006. Robert was
born on January 21, 1917 in Chillicothe, IL, son of Otto and Lulu (nee
Rogers). He graduated with a degree in journalism from the University
of Illinois-Urbana Champagne. A veteran of World War II, he served in
the European theatre. He returned from the war and began work at
Reuben H. Donnelly Corporation where he was an innovator of marketing
techniques still used today; he oversaw the development of a host of
then-leading direct mail and other strategic communications campaigns. Robert retired as a senior vice president and director in 1976. He
spent the rest of his life caring for his family, traveling and
conquering the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle every week. Robert was renowned for his quick wit, urbane attitude and baby blue
eyes. He was a lover of the written word and his conversation was
peppered with the quips and wisdom of Dorothy Parker, Winston
Churchill and Oscar Wilde. Robert's wit and wisdom touched the lives
of many, from the time he told then-Chief Justice Earl Warren he could
be seated to taking Russian poet laurete Yevgeny Yevteshenko on a
narrated boat tour of Waupaca's Chain of Lakes. Robert was an avid golfer well into his 80s, and he traveled the globe
to play bogey golf at the world's finest courses: Robert was over par
from St. Andrews to Pebble Beach to the Waupaca Country Club. Robert leaves a legacy of friends and family who remember him for his
kindness, his dignity and his endless array of stories and anecdotes. He is survived by his wife Jane, children Barclay (Deborah), Barry,
Bradley, Baxter and Barbara (Craig), grandchildren Kelly, Seth and
Marcia (Tim), and great-grandchildren Kyle, Serenity and Izaak. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shriner's Children's
Hospital or the Waupaca Public Library. At Robert's request, private family services will be held.
