Robert R. (Pee Paw) Ikert
Poy Sippi, WI
Age 90 - passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Berlin Hospital in Berlin, WI. He was born on May 28, 1920 in Elgin, IL, the son of Carl and Frieda (Barth) Ikert. He married Lois Miller on January 3, 1948 in Elgin, IL. She preceded him in death on June 11, 2004.
Robert is survived by his children; Debra Carlson (Burner) of Pine River, Alan (Christine) Ikert of Fremont, Michael Ikert of Kentucky, and Tracy Harrison (Jeff Kiener) of Green Lake, twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by is wife, Lois, a daughter, Cindy Burns, a son, David Ikert, his parents, and two brothers; Albert and Don Ikert.
Robert had been employed as a truck driver for a plumbing and heating supply company in Elgin, IL. After his retirement he moved to the Tustin area in 1978. He took a part time job as a custodian at the Christ Lutheran School in West Bloomfield and held that job for almost 30 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima and on Volcano Island. He had also served in Okinawa and was aboard the USS Missouri at the time the peace treaty was signed between the United States and Japan. He was a musician and played the bugle in several drum and bugle corps competitions through the years. He had also played the TAPS at many military graveside services for fellow veterans.
A funeral service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Poy Sippi, WI on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend George Groves – Poy Sippi United Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors followed by interment will be in the Poy Sippi Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Poy Sippi on Thursday from Noon until 1:00 PM. The Holly Funeral Home of Poy Sippi, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
