I will never forget the fun we had playing cards and talking about the daily topics weekly we where the best of friends .I will never forget ,God bless you Roger, Tom
I was a friend of Roger's for 54 years. Met him when he first came to New London, he was talking to my Dad and I stopped by to see who he was. He was a truly lovely man. I loved him from the very beginning, love him still. He was and always will be a big part of our New London history. No one kinder, no one with a bigger heart. He was an incredible wordsmith, every article as good as or better than the last one he wrote. Rest in Peace, my friend.
I worked in The Post-Crescent newsroom for 22 years and 21 of those were with Roger. He was my boss for most of that time. I was a police reporter, among other things, and I remember getting phone calls from Roger in the middle of the night. Sometimes I got my assignments from that end stool at Bucky's that folks are talking about. He was a man with a big appetite and a big heart. But there's one thing I'd like people to know about him - when disaster struck, when a major story was breaking, there was no one better than Roger at keeping his cool. When it came to managing breaking news, he was the best. Roger was a true newspaper man - in the old-school meaning of that phrase - and that's the highest compliment I can offer.
People like Roger you think will never pass from this iife. The world is a sadder place because of it. He said what he meant and never tried to hurt anyone. He was a very humble man with a big smile. He will be missed as a part of New London's history. May he rest in peace.

It was an absolute privilege having Roger Pitt in this world. He was a consistent and ever positive influence on not only Jason, Casey and me as we grew up, but on all of his "kids" at Bucky's. He was smart and he was sassy. He got our attention, got us thinking, and kept us thinking. He was so generous with his heart and knowledge. His various passions, such as books, writing, wildlife, and political debate, were priceless gifts that he shared with multiple generations. ...Along with his very lovable self.
Roger's impact will no doubt last much more than the quantity of a lifetime. He sure was a bright light at the end of that counter. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Thank you Roger- for everything.
Love You.

I first met Roger when I was 14 years old when I started working at Buckys. He was always kind and understanding. I had my first child very young, I was pregnant when I was a senior in high school, and Roger didn't judge me for that. Teddy, my son, was one of the children from the quarter club. I have so many memories of him, not one of them are bad. Teddy and I appreciate him and all that he has done, and we will miss him very much.
If you knew Roger, you knew a guy who left a lasting impression. You knew a guy who cared about the people he covered and the communities he served. You knew a kind person who also understood what it was to be responsible to readers. He was one of a kind.
Godspeed, Roger. Thanks for your hard work and your contributions.
I got to know Roger through the Tomorrow River Scholarship Foundation Inc, He very seldom missed a meeting. He was passionate about the education of the Amherst area children. I will miss his wisdom and creative thinking.
Prayers of support and love to the Pitt family at this time of sorrow.
