Ronald N. Smith
King, WI
age 72 – died on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. He was born on April 17, 1937 in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Myrna (Ray) Smith.
Ronald is survived by two daughters; Kelly (Walt) Brownsward of Glastonbury, CT, and Tracey (Andy) Klein of Henderson, NV, three grandchildren; Evan Tye of Boston, MA, and Jacob and Jenna Klein of Henderson, NV, his mother; Myrna Whitenack of Appleton, a brother; Don (Fay) Smith of Appleton, and a sister; Darlene (Arly) Relien of Greenville. He is further survived by two nephews, three nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
Ron had attended Appleton schools until he entered the Navy in 1952. He proudly served his country from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He served during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. After returning from the Navy, Ron extended his education by obtaining a degree in engineering from Fox Valley Technical College. He was a self employed semi truck driver and had driven throughout the United States for many years. In his youth he loved baseball and was an avid New York Yankee fan. He had also taught swimming at the YMCA in Appleton. Ron had lived in Waupaca for the past 20 years. He was an avid reader and loved writing letters to the editor. He also enjoyed a good “discussion”.
Per Ron’s wishes no services will be held. Interment will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King, WI. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff from 4th floor of Stordock Hall. A special thank you to Roz. Ron thought they were a great bunch.
