Rose M. Whitman's Obituary
Rose M. Whitman, age 93, of Almond, WI passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at her residence. Rose was born in Cottington, Portage County on December 10, 1917; she was the 5th of twelve children born to the late Rhyna and Mary (Pionke) Everett. On November 17, 1936, Rose married Fred H. Whitman in Heffron and moved into Fred's family home and lived there until her death. Growing up, Rose lived in many different areas and was proud of the fact that when she married Fred, she moved into his house with just her suitcase and never moved again. She worked on the family farm with her husband and family. She also worked at Kiekafer Box Factory from 1957 until it closed. Rose also worked at James Burns & Son Potato Warehouse for many years. She loved to crochet, which led to many afghan's and baby sweaters sets for all her family and friends. She is a member of the Almond United Methodist Church. Rose is survived by her children: Henry (Carol) Whitman, Hobbs, New Mexico; Larry (Esther) Whitman, Almond and Delores (Russell) Nordness, Madison; her nine grandchildren: Linda Oser, Madison; Melissa (Bill) Harryman, Texas; Robert Nordness, Madison; Angela (Gary) Wierzba, Stevens Point; Kathy (Tim) Thompson, Black River Falls; Karoline Whitman, Windsor; Cassie (Mark) Johnson, Hobbs, N. Mexico; Emily Whitman, Almond and James Whitman, Almond, WI. Also surviving are her fifteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, her sisters: Betty Sutton, Columbus; Alice Cerro, Madison; Mary Ann Haarklau, Madison; Helen (Wayne) Jacobson, Madison and her brother: Arnold Everett of Black River Falls. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and a great granddaughter, McKenzie. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 5 at 1 PM at the Almond United Methodist Church with Reverend David Leistra, officiating, assisted by Tim Thompson. Burial will be in the spring at Guardian Angels Cemetery in the Town of Almond. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Almond United Methodist Church. Hardell-Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
