Age 64 - died Monday, February 20, 2012 at her residence. She was born February 22, 1947 in Brainerd, MN, the daughter of Forrest and Dorothy (Boettcher) Kahler. She married Russell Munig on September 4, 1964 in Hibbing, MN.
Shirley is survived by her husband: Russell, children: Holly (Scott) Gustke of Redgranite, Troy (Amber) Munig of Phoenix, AZ, Jay (Gina) Munig of Oshkosh, Josh Munig of Redgranite, and Sam (Lisa) Munig of Wautoma, five grandchildren: Ayron Munig, Morgan Munig, Saige Munig, Grace Munig, and Garrett Munig. She is also survived by brothers: Gordon Slater of Montana, and Duncan Slater of Minnesota, and sisters: Delilah Headley of California, and Ruth Sawyer of Wisconsin Rapids. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister: Mary Jokela.
Shirley had been employed with Fleet Farm in Oshkosh for over 15 years. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She had a number of interests including traveling, singing, and writing. She had recorded some of her music, and she had written a book about her struggle with brain cancer. She also enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose, WI. Visitation will be on Friday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Wild Rose. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory. The Holly Funeral Home of Wild Rose, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
