Susan M Degroot
I always enjoyed the time I spent with Sally and her husband, Jim. Sally was one of my cousins, albeit 18 years older than I was. However, while she was able, she always hand wrote me a personal Christmas Card every year....none of those copied letters for her. I always remember laughing when we were with them. My mom and dad, Dutch and Linnea Werner, always kept in touch with them. My mom will still reference things at age 93 sometimes, as being when she went to Sally and Jim's wedding. They would visit with them in the UP of Michigan and also in Orange Beach, Alabama when they wintered there. My mom would always report how she helped my Dad when he was frail to open doors, and get up from chairs. She and Jim made the time and put forth the effort to come to both their 50th wedding anniversary party in 2001 and also to my Dad's funeral, in spite of it being in early February and quite a blizzard as I recall.
I also recall our visit with them when they lived in Salt Lake City, UT. My brother, Paul Werner, and cousin Cheri Rampke (Solomon) drove my parents 1972 Chevy Nova from Michigan to Salt Lake, camping on our way there and back. It was our grand adventure when Paul and Cheri graduated from High School and I was a 19 year old soon to be Junior at U of M (Michigan). What a great time we had driving up into the mountains and just hanging out.
My sympathy to all Julie, Lisa and Jim and their families. I hope you will stay in touch with us in some way. On Facebook, I am Sue Werner deGroot. She will always be in my memory and my heart.
