Steve J. McDaniel's Obituary
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that our brother Steve (Chumley) McDaniel passed on June 5, 2023.
Steve was born March 13,1955 to Dick and Jean McDaniel, the fourth of eight children. Family was a big part of his life, and he enjoyed spending time with family as often as he could. Friendships were also a huge part of his life. When Steve made friends, he made friends for life.
He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, playing cards, and fishing. He especially loved fishing for walleye on the Wolf River, Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, Lake Erie, and Canada while in the company of family and friends. The fishing trips were some of his favorite memories he shared with his dad. Steve also enjoyed watching the races. Oftentimes he and Mark would pick a winner and cheer them on throughout the race. He had two family dogs, Buddy and Gabby, that both held a special place in his heart.
Steve had a great sense of humor and loved making others laugh especially the table talk while playing cards. He was also an avid Packer fan and would often shout out at the Refs for their bad calls.
He worked at the Foundry for many years in many different departments. He eventually found his calling in the Pattern Shop where he made many lifelong friends.
Steve enjoyed his time wintering in Arizona where he met many great friends and found a new hobby shooting sporting clays.
Steve passed following a series of health issues. He fought a good fight with strength and humility, but his body became too tired. He will be missed by many. We take comfort in his faith and that his spirit will always be with us.
Steve is survived by his loving family and many friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca at 11 AM on Thursday, June 15th, 2023, with Father Xavier Santiago, officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Waupaca. Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15th, from 9 AM until the time of the service at the church.
Please join us at the church as we celebrate his life and reminisce. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Please feel free to come as you are. Steve was not a suit and tie type of man and would want you to be comfortable. In lieu of flowers we would appreciate a gift to your choice of charity in Steve’s name. The family would like to extend a big Thank You to all of the people that helped Steve these last few years, especially ThedaCare and Gold Cross ambulance.
