Thomas Radler's Obituary
Thomas R. Radler, age 64, of Waupaca, passed away on Friday, March 31st, 2006 at Bethany Home in Waupaca after a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born in Milwaukee on October 18, 1941, a son of Dolores (Sternhagen) Radler and the late Raphael Radler. He married Bernadette Niespodziani on August 27, 1966 in Stevens Point. He graduated from Messmer High School in Milwauke. Thom was an Eagle Scout. Thom graduated from UW Stevens Point in 1966 where he had been the President of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, and had been the photographer for the year book there. He taught English at the Waupaca High School for 35 years and was girls volleyball coach for 15 years. Thom was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where he had served at Parish Council President at for many years and was very involved with church activities. He also was involved with the Special Olympics was also the Treasurer for ARSC for Waupaca County. Thom had a special fondness for restoring and rebuilding old cars, especially station wagons. Survivors include his Wife: Bernadette (Berni) Radler, Waupaca; Son: Barry Radler, Ph.D., Madison; Daughters: Amy (Patrick) Ward, Metamora, IL; Gillian Radler, Waupaca; Jennifer Radler, Waupaca; Grandsons: Jackson Ward; Maxwell Ward; Cade Ward; his Mother: Dolores Radler, Milwaukee; Brother: William Radler, Greenfield; Sister: Mary Jo (Daniel) Zane, Mequon. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and by a special grand nephew and namesake - Thomas Zane. Funeral Mass at will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community in Waupaca at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 8th. Interment of cremains will be in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 until 7 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of service at the church. A memorial has been established in Thom's name.
