Victor Peters' Obituary
Victor E. Peters, age 83, of Stevens Point, formerly of Amherst, passed away on Monday, June 19th, 2006 at St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point. He was born in the Town of Lanark on January 29, 1923, a son of the late Emil and Emma (Schulke) Peters. Victor attended Amherst schools, graduating from Amherst High School in 1941. He married Viola V. Thompson on July 12, 1958 in Amherst. Victor was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amherst He entered the Army on February 2, 1943, stationed at Fort Sheridan. He took basic training at Camp Grant, Il. He then went to England and served about 18 months there and was discharged on March 16, 1946. After the Army, he worked at Bordens Dairy for 16 years and then the Portage County Highway Department for 24 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked for Pavelski Enterprises/FS Cooperative and the Potato Plant. Victor had served as a Village Trustee for Amherst from 1975 to 1984. Survivors include his wife: Viola Peters, Stevens Point; 2 Sons: Jim (Cindy) Peters, Stevens Point; Jeff (Trudy Beth) Peters, Stevens Point; 6 Grandchildren: Matt, Beth, Kyler, Cole, Sam & Quinton; a Sister: Hildegard Berto, Hawthorne, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters - Charlotte, Violet, Adella, Ella, Evelyn, Augusta, 3 brothers - Don, Herman, Reinhart and an infant brother - Herbert. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Victor E. Peters. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amherst at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 22nd, with Reverend Chris Schwanz officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst and on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church.
