Walter Hensel's Obituary
WALTER E. HENSEL
WAUPACA, WI (FORMERLY OF RACINE, WI) Age 84 – left this world to join his Lord on May 25, 2006. He was born in Waupaca, WI on October 3, 1921, the son of the late Rev. Max and Elsie (Dobrient) Hensel. He grew up in and attended school in Weyauwega, WI where his father was the pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. On February 12, 1944, Walt married Katherine Koenecke in Reedsburg, WI. She preceded him in death on August 25, 1973. After receiving his engineering degree from UW-Madison, he worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., Mobil Oil Co., and then S.C. Johnson Wax Co. in Racine for 35 years. His work included research in the Frank Lloyd Wright Research Tower and many worldwide engineering assignments. After retirement he returned to Waupaca and enjoyed his church, his family, music, traveling, hiking, biking, and golf. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca Rotary Club, Winchester Academy, and Elderhostel continuing education. He was thankful for the Lord’s redemption and salvation. He is survived by his sons: Richard (Ann) Hensel of Spring Arbor, MI, John (Melba) Hensel of Minneapolis, MN, his daughters: Sue (Steve) Hoffenberg of Madison, WI, and Jean (Jack) Mangan of Minneapolis, MN, four grandsons: Erik Hensel, Karl Hensel, Paul (Melanie) Hensel and their son Christopher, and Scott (Tanya) Hensel and their children Eva, Lucas, and Raynae, his sister: Carol Young of Madison, WI, and his brother: Win (Donna) Hensel of Brookfield, WI. Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, his parents, a brother, Max, and a sister, Gertrude. A funeral service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 9:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Charles Tews, officiating. Following the funeral service a committal service will be held at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Racine, WI at 2:30 PM. Friends may call at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, and at the church on Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the service. A reception for family and friends will be held prior to the visitation on Tuesday from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Green Fountain Inn in Waupaca. A memorial fund has been established to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
