Alice E. “Betsy” Bricker age 84, passed away on Thursday January 4, 2024. She was born in Whitehall, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Harvey (Evans) Kowitz. Betsy graduated from Madison West High School in 1957, U.W. Madiso Read Obituary
Mrs. Bricker was not only a teacher at Maine East but also my coach and mentor. I went into teaching because of her. I had a great career and tried to influence my student's lives just as she did with me. I hope she lived peacefully with love and comfort from friends and family. She will always be a part of my life.
One of the best around…Coach Bricker left us with so many great memories…softball 78-82. She had such passion…with her detailed analysis of the entire game … inning by inning…pitch by pitch.…she prepared for us in writing the day after each competition. This was long before games were video taped. We all wanted to win for Coach B. Every end of season banquet she personally made each of us burnt wood awards that hang in my office to this day. What a great lady! We are all better for knowing you.
So very thankful for Betsy hiring our oldest son Steven to do yard work several years ago. She then continued to hire our next son Landon and then eventually our daughter Ashlie. She spread the word to neighbors and they all ended up with full-time jobs throughout the summer. My husband and I also filled in from time to time so the kids could still have their summer jobs while going to college. So our whole family got to know Betsy very well. It certainly was a great help to them to help pay for their schooling! They are all college graduates! But more than that we are thankful for the friendship and her kindness to us all. She always tried to keep up on what all the kids were doing and that meant a lot to me. She has many friends and will be missed by them all.
Betsy & cousin Marge are together again & can share all of the great famiy stories. Marge (mom) loved having her come to Morrison, IL for several days each summer - they had such good times together! Rest in peace Betsy & give mom & Adele big hugs from us. Love Andrea, Alicia & families.
