Alice "Betsy" Bricker's Obituary
Alice E. “Betsy” Bricker age 84, passed away on Thursday January 4, 2024. She was born in Whitehall, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Harvey (Evans) Kowitz. Betsy graduated from Madison West High School in 1957, U.W. Madison with a Bachelors Degree in 1961 and Northwestern with her Masters Degree in 1967. She did post-graduate work at Penn State while on sabbatical leave from 1974 until 1975. She taught Physical Education at Maine Township High School East from 1961 until 1994. She was one of the early coaches in the Central Suburban League developing interscholastic competition for girls. She coached softball, basketball and bowling teams and later served as the girls Athletic Director. During the summer months in her younger years, she worked with the youth at camps in northern Wisconsin and Iowa. She also worked at a youth ranch in Wyoming. After retirement, she returned to Wisconsin to live in her dream home, a log cabin she and her family members had built, “In the woods, by the lake, six miles from anywhere.”
Betsy is survived by her sisters Martha Bjerke and Margaret (Howard) Gutgesell; her nieces and nephews Nina (Mike) Scholtz, Heidi (Dave) Daniels, Kirsten Medeiros, Eric Bierke and Kirk (Leanne) Bierke and eight grand nieces and nephews.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Harvey Kowitz.
As per Betsy’s wishes there will be no formal services. Any gifts may be sent to your local Humane Society. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
