Dear friends,
it took me a few days. When I read your message, Charles, that hit me in the stomach. I could hardly realize what I was reading. Infact, after talking to him by phone, I made myself convinced that much could still be done.
Then, a sudden and painful awakening. My feelings, nevertheless, are of gratitude to the person that gave me the opportunity to hear Pete again, some month ago.
And, though after many years, that was the opportunity to go back with the memory to the happy days in Chappaqua, winter 1967; all your family was a great host to me, and I remembered Pete and Hap as brothers, sweet Marilyn and Charles as parents.
You were family for me.
Pete was a true comrade, and this I will not forget. It was my fault to loose this precious friendship for such a long time. Can only hope you will forgive. Dear Pete, may you find a Mother of love and mercy, forever.
May those who knew your true spirit keep the memory of the best days, as I remember only the days of our friendship and youth.
My prayer and love, next to you.
