David L. Scherwinski MD's Obituary
David Louis Scherwinski MD, age 66, of Waupaca, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, September 24 surrounded by his loving family. David was born on May 1, 1958 to Ervin and Ruth Scherwinski (Pape). He married his beloved wife Cathy (Hacker) on August 2, 1980. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Marquette University. He received his Medical Degree at University of Wisconsin Madison.
Dave was an Anesthesiologist at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin and at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. He was Medical Director of Anesthesia and served on the hospital board at both hospitals.
Dave always said that his favorite title was Grandpa. He was affectionately known as
Grumpa (Grandpa, only grumpier). Dave loved woodworking. He did much of the woodworking in his family home, built a log cabin with his brothers, and created many pieces of furniture with his children. He was an avid reader and loved history. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends. Dave had a passion for curling. He and Cathy curled together on Monday nights and he curled in the men’s league on Thursday nights. For the last several years he was the ice maker for Waupaca Curling Club. He loved the art and science of providing great ice for his fellow curlers. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife Cathy, children Aaron, Joanne (Justin Timmerman), Kyle (Katia), and Christa (Tim Laughland). He is survived by his grandchildren Emme, Audrey, Brielle, and Charlotte Scherwinski, Mia and Eli Timmerman, Archer and Sawyer Laughland. He is further survived by his mother Ruth and siblings Kathy (Kurt Brown), Ron (Lisa), Dan (Pam),
Chuck (Anne), Glen (Sema), Ellen (Joe Christensen), Lisa (Jeff Ihn), Donna (Ed Wnuk),
John (Diane), Susan (Todd Steffanus), Karen (Darrell Martinez) and Tom (Lia). David is also survived by many Aunts and Uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Dave is preceded in death by his father Ervin Scherwinski and grandparents Arnold and Ida Scherwinski and Louis and Melania Pape.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the family home. Lunch will be served at noon with a gathering to follow. We will honor Dave by playing the games he loved, bocce ball, croquet, and bags. If you would like to bring a favorite story about Dave, we will have a binder to put your stories in. It will give us great comfort to read your stories.
A mass with a special intention for Dave will be held on Sunday, October 13 at 10:00 at Saint Mary Magdalene Church.
