Donald Aylesworth's Obituary
Donald L. Aylesworth, a.k.a. Mr. Geezer, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Memorial services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, with Pastor Dwight Anderson officiating, on Saturday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial celebration will be held later the same day beginning 6 p.m. at the Lettie W. Jensen Community Center in Amherst. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Lettie W. Jensen Community Center in Amherst. Mr. Aylesworth was born on May 26, 1932, in Jackson, Michigan, son of the late Harold and Dorthea (Harrington) Aylesworth. He received a Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, and a Master's degree and Phd from Michigan State University. He was a professor of Communicative Disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for more than 30 years until he retired in 1995. Under the performing name Mr. Geezer, he entertained audiences and authored a monthly column in the Amherst newspaper, Our Community Spirit. Don loved the Amherst Community. He was actively involved in local theater for many years. In 2005, he received the Portage County Community Circle Award for community leadership and the Our Community Spirit, Person of the Year Award, in recognition of his community work. He also served as a Board member for Lettie W. Jensen Community Center for many years. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church up until his death. His wit, humor, and generosity will be greatly missed. He was survived by four sons, Gary, Charleston, IL., Greg, Lake Oswego, OR., Kevin, Cherry Hill, NJ, and Thom, Scituate, MA, his long-time companion Mary Hahn, Peshtigo, WI, and six grandchildren.
