I met James shortly before we both began law school in 2003, and we became very close friends throughout the last two years. I can say with conviction that James is one of the few people I know who lived his life to the utmost and never let an opportunity to smile go by. James created an incredibly positive energy throughout the many lives he touched, and his memory lives forever through all of us who have had the honor and privilege to call him a friend.
My deepest condolences for the loss of James. I only found out today. I met James several years ago thru my roommate Kelly Hayes. He was a friend with a smile and laid back demeanor that could put anyone at ease. He will be sadly missed.
Our prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow. Life is so precious. We can remember James on the track field with Mick at Kent State, what a couple of great, good looking guys. (I loved those dimples and would poke my finger in them)! We just loved the fact that James and Mick were roommates and such great buds. We prayed that Mick would have a roommate that was just like James. Mick called us yesterday to tell us about the news, he was so upset. He said James was one of the nicest guys he ever knew. He touched so many lives. Mick came out to Wis. to see James about 3 years ago and had such a great time (until he was re-ended in Chicago on the way home) Mick has stayed in touch with all of the guys from the track team and has relayed the unfortunate news to them. We just want you to know that we'll be praying for you through this time of sorrow. We love you!
I didn't know James real well but my son Alex had made some poor decisions about a incident at the Shell station where he worked. Tom Johnson was our attonery and James had come to Alex's court appearances.James was kind and didn't judge. I just wanted you to know that I didn't know him but could tell he had a loving heart and I am so sorry for your loss. Alex was also on the football team that went to state. Our prayers are with you. love Earl ,Karla and Alex Dennee
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Though we did not know James that well, we knew Joel, and we just wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and our prayers are with you. We wish we could be there in person, but even though physically we won't be, our thoughts will be. Also, Joel, if you need anything let me know and I will see you the next time I get back to Waupaca. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We are all here together James, the only person missing is you. Save us all a spot and we will all be sharing a beer together before long. We love you.
Dear Kempfert family, I loved James dearly and will miss him more than anything. He was so special to me, to my family, and to everyone he ever came in contact with. I am thinking of you all and will see you in Waupaca tomorrow afternoon. My deepest, warmest, and most heartfelt sympathies to you,

Your son was a very special person. I first got to know James was when my daughter was in track in high school. We would go to watch her and would see James when he ran and how he was such a good runner. One time he was ahead of all the other runners and looked over his shoulder to see if anyone was catching up to him and stuck his tongue out at one of the other runners and them just put it full throttle and just took off way ahead of everyone. I also had gotten to known him better when he joined the Chain Skiers. My son, Jeremy, who drove the double dyne ski boat and James got to be close friends. Jeremy also worked at Dings Dock when James and Tom A. worked there. James always went out of his way to say hi to me whenever he saw me.
