JAMES “JIM” G. WHITNEY
KING, WISCONSIN
FORMERLY OF NEENAH, WISCONSIN Age 84, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. He was born July 2, 1926 in Weyauwega, WI; son of Gilbert and Edith (Farley) Whitney. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from June 1943 to February 1946. He served aboard the Battleship USS North Carolina which he was very proud of. On December 15, 1945, Jim married Joyce Knaack in Neenah, WI. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2010. In August of 1946, Jim had a swimming accident in Lake Winnebago and was paralyzed from the accident. He had a long, hard, never-ending battle, but he overcame the paralysis to enjoy fishing, hunting, and camping at Post Lake in Elcho, WI. He could have been the “Poster Person” for willpower. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family very much. He was employed at Miller Electric Manufacturing Co. in Appleton for 35 years. Jim is survived by:

Also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Edith Whitney; his wife, Joyce Whitney; a son-in-law, Dean Mathison; and two sisters, Beverly Tessen and Ruth (Peter) Weitz. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. Chaplain Rich Engle will officiate. A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the Main Chapel on Friday. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers at the Wisconsin Veterans Home for all of their help and support for Jim.
