Many of the things mentioned in the obituary, I got to observe first hand in my developing friendship with Jeff at The Lakes Church. He loved his family, especially his son Caleb, and his daughter Megan. Like any loving father, he shared celebrations of them, as well as prayer requests concerning them. He also wanted to develop more of a conversational life with Holy Spirit. And was reading books on understanding the different ways that God communicates. In the small group that we were in, he shared honestly and vulnerably where he was at with different things that we were discussing. And I remember the way that he prayed to God. He also had a great sense of humor, sometimes wearing humorous Christian t-shirts to small group, such as "May the Forth Be With You" referring to Daniel's 3 friends in Babylon, who were thrown into the fiery furnace for not worshiping the statue of the king (all while lampooning starwars). And then he had the "All my role models went to prison ... Jesus, Paul, Joseph, Daniel, John the Baptist" in prison orange. I was looking so forward to more stories of his enjoying his retirement, and enjoying his children in retirement. I am sad that was cut short.
