Mama in the Red Swimsuit
I remember the day I asked my mother if we could go to the beach, but she said we did not have enough money for the bus.
My brothers, sisters and I hunted for coins under the sofa cushions, and we were soon on our way to Rainbow Beach; on the shores of Lake Michigan.
After my siblings and I played in the water and sand for awhile, Mama rounded us up onto a huge beach towel; Our very own terry cloth island. She made us promise to stay put until she returned, and headed toward the Lake.
I watched in awe as Mama swam out to the floating deck and climbed the ladder to the diving board. She looked so beautiful in her red swimsuit.
It seemed as if everyone on the beach watched as Mama dove into the lake in perfect form. I could not take my eyes off of her as she swam back to us. I was so proud to be the daughter of the woman in the red swim suit.
